Share Wi-Fi the safe way
- 01Use a guest network. Anyone who scans the code, or photographs it, has the password, so keep your main network out of it.
- 02Changed the password? Make a new code. The password is stored inside the code, so an old code stops working the moment the password changes.
- 03Match the network name exactly. Names are case sensitive and a trailing space counts. The generator warns you when it spots one.
- 04Write the network name as the label under the code, so someone on a laptop without a camera can still find the network and type the password.
- 05Print it at least 3 cm wide on a table card, and keep the white border around the code: cameras need it to find the edges.

How do I make a QR code for my Wi-Fi?
Enter your network name exactly as the router shows it, the password and the security type (WPA covers WPA2 and WPA3), then download the code. Guests scan it with the phone camera and tap to join. Everything is made in your browser.
Can iPhone and Android scan a Wi-Fi QR code without an app?
Yes. The iPhone Camera has read Wi-Fi QR codes since iOS 11. Android 10 and later read them with the camera, Google Lens or the QR scanner in Wi-Fi settings.
Does a Wi-Fi QR code expire?
No. A static Wi-Fi code holds the network name and password directly, so it works until one of them changes. There is no account or subscription behind it.
Will the code still work if I change my Wi-Fi password?
No. The password is stored in the code itself, so after changing it you need a new code. It takes a minute here, and the old printout should be replaced.
Is it safe to put my Wi-Fi password in a QR code?
It is as safe as writing the password on a card: anyone who scans or photographs it can join. Use a guest network for visitors, keep the code indoors, and change the guest password now and then.
Which security type should I choose, and what about WPA3?
Choose WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 for almost every router; the phone works out which version to use. Choose WPA3 only if your router runs WPA3 alone, which adds the flag that stops phones falling back to WPA2. WEP is outdated and only for old equipment.
Does it work with hidden networks?
Yes, tick hidden network and the code carries the flag phones look for. Hidden networks are less reliable to join from any QR code, so a visible guest network is the smoother choice.
Can I share Wi-Fi from my phone instead?
Yes. On iPhone with iOS 18, open the Passwords app, choose Wi-Fi, pick the network and show its QR code. On Android 10 and later, open Wi-Fi settings, tap the gear next to the network and choose Share. A printed code does the same job when you are not there.
Why won’t my Wi-Fi QR code connect?
Almost always the network name does not match exactly (capitals, spaces), the security type is wrong, or the password has changed since the code was made. Check those three, then make a new code.
