Contact codes that save cleanly
- 01Keep it under about 300 bytes. DENSO WAVE, the inventor of the QR code, puts reliable phone reading at around 271 bytes; past that a small code gets hard to scan.
- 02Add your website for everything else: portfolio, booking page and socials, one short link instead of five fields.
- 03Test on an iPhone and an Android before a print run: names and accented letters are where contact codes most often go wrong.
- 04Print it at least 2 cm wide on a business card, with the white border around it, and use SVG or PDF so it stays sharp.
- 05A printed code cannot be edited. New number or job? Update the details here and reprint.

What is a vCard QR code?
A QR code that holds a contact card as text: name, phones, email, company and more. Scanning it offers to save the contact straight into the phone’s address book.
Does a contact QR code work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. The iPhone Camera reads both vCard and MeCard contact codes, and Android reads them with the camera or Google Lens, which offers Add to contacts.
Should I use vCard or MeCard?
vCard 3.0 for the most fields, including job title, two phone numbers and a full address. MeCard carries fewer fields but is much shorter, so the code is less dense and prints smaller.
Why vCard 3.0 and not 4.0?
vCard 3.0 is the version phone cameras read most reliably; the iPhone Camera has had trouble with vCard 4.0 cards containing special characters. 3.0 carries every field a contact card needs.
Can I add a photo to a contact QR code?
Not practically. A photo adds thousands of characters, far more than a code a phone can read. Add your website instead and put the photo there.
Why is my contact QR code so dense?
More text means more modules. Each field adds bytes, and past about 300 bytes a business-card code gets hard to scan. Switch to MeCard or leave out a field.
Can I edit the contact after printing?
No. A static code holds the details directly, so changing them means making a new code. That is also why it never expires and needs no account.
Does scanning it need an internet connection?
No. The contact is inside the code, so a phone can save it with no signal at all.
Is my contact information stored anywhere?
No. The code is made in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Unlike hosted contact pages, there is no server that keeps your details or records who scans.
