Buy the source when the data is sensitive, when you want to change how it works, or when a monthly fee for something this specific does not make sense. Tenant records, payroll and patient data are the usual reasons.
Buy SaaS when you do not want to be responsible for hosting, updates and security. That is a real cost and it is fair to avoid it.

Most of what I build is commissioned rather than sold off the shelf, so the catalogue is deliberately small.
