Questions worth asking
Do you work fixed price or hourly?
Fixed price for a defined project, hourly for ongoing work. A defined project gets a written scope with a price and a date before anything starts, so you are not exposed to an open meter.
Who owns the code and the accounts?
You do. Hosting, domains and third party accounts go in your name from the start, and the code is yours. Nothing is held as leverage.
What happens after launch?
You get documentation, a walkthrough recording and the credentials. Ongoing support is available and optional. A handover that leaves you dependent on me is a failed handover.
Do you work with existing code?
Yes, and a lot of the work is inherited systems. I will tell you honestly when something is worth repairing and when a rebuild is cheaper than continuing to patch it.
What time zone are you in?
UTC+8, Philippine time. I keep flexible hours for the US and Europe: my afternoons line up with the European morning and my late evenings with the US morning. Replies within 24 hours on weekdays.
Will you tell me if I do not need this?
Yes. If a spreadsheet, an off the shelf tool or a plugin solves your problem, that is the advice you will get. Selling you a build you do not need costs me the next three projects.
