SonicFlow is a self-hosted YouTube music player built with PHP and MySQL. A Spotify-like experience with no subscription and no ads, running on your own server.
The problem
Streaming subscriptions stack up, and the music you listen to most is often already on YouTube. The gap is the interface: YouTube is built for video discovery, not for playing an album while you work.
What I built
A player interface over YouTube sources. Playlists, queue and continuous playback, which is the part YouTube itself handles badly for audio.
Self-hosted on your own server. No subscription, no ads, and the library is yours rather than a licence that can be revoked.
PHP and MySQL backend. Deliberately boring stack so it runs on cheap shared hosting rather than needing a container platform.
The stack
PHP with MySQL. A personal project, and a demonstration that a familiar consumer experience can be rebuilt on a simple stack when the requirements are modest.
