What was in the way
A developer portfolio has to be evidence, not description.
Claiming you write clean, fast code on a site running fourteen plugins and a page builder is an argument against yourself. Anyone technical will view source before they read the copy, and what they find there settles the question.
The second problem is specific to this trade. Every developer portfolio says the same things: clean code, responsive, SEO friendly, fast. The words carry no information because everyone uses them. The only differentiator is a site that can be inspected and holds up.
Five parts, each with a reason
Custom WordPress theme in PHP
No page builder. Custom post types for projects, services, tools and products, with templates written directly.
The post type structure is the part that matters. Projects, services, tools and products are genuinely different things with different fields and different templates. Modelling them as one generic post type with categories is the shortcut that makes a site unmaintainable at about fifty entries.
Custom SEO layer
Titles, meta descriptions, Open Graph, canonicals, JSON-LD and sitemap filtering handled in the theme rather than by a plugin.
Not because SEO plugins are bad. Because the output is then something I control and can explain, which is the point when the site exists partly to demonstrate that I understand it.
A dynamic llms.txt
Generated from the content with cache invalidation on save, following the llmstxt.org convention, so AI assistants get a curated map of the site rather than crawling it blind. You can read it.
Dynamic rather than hand maintained, because a hand maintained file goes stale within a month and a stale map is worse than none.
Seven standalone tool applications
Served directly rather than through WordPress, each built as its own application: password generator, password hasher, QR generator, invoice generator, business card generator, Excel formula finder and a tech stack detector.
They exist to be useful and to be found. A tool that solves a real problem earns links and returning visitors in a way a portfolio page never does.
A full JSON-LD entity graph
Person linked to Organization linked to WebSite, with Service and Offer on service pages, Article on projects, BlogPosting on posts, FAQPage where there are questions, WebApplication on tools, and BreadcrumbList throughout.
A graph rather than disconnected blocks. Most implementations emit unrelated schema objects on each page. Linking them with @id is what lets a search engine resolve them as one entity across the site.
The engineering underneath
Custom WordPress theme in PHP with utility CSS, MySQL, and a set of standalone PHP and Python tool applications alongside it. Cloudflare in front, deployed on a DigitalOcean droplet.
Why it is listed as a project
Because it is the most inspectable thing I have built.
Everything claimed on the AI search optimization and development pages is verifiable by viewing source on old.deeve.info. The schema graph is there. The llms.txt is there. The absence of a page builder is there.
That is a deliberately uncomfortable position to take, and it is the reason the site is worth listing.
